As 1 mentioned in the wire Kistler decided that he could not afford to take the drop but was rather reluctant at that because as I have explained there are some things ih the Situation here that do not look too good. While I was over there I met Voltmer, whom I mentioned for the situation last fall. Of course he is out of our price range now. I talked with him at length regarding Lapp and Wendler. I have a great deal of faith in Voltmer and he was very outspoken re- garding Lapp. He said that hehas often been ama- zed at the ability of Lapp to’hold his own before a critical audience. Voltmer said that granting the fact that one's first impression of Lapp may not be too good, this is soon overcome by his outstanding intellect- ual ability. I have talked to several others since last writing to you and the balance seems much in favor of Lapp for his wearing ability and possibility of development. It may seem to you that I have not at times been consistent regarding my statements but I have tried to keep you informed as to the best infor- mation I could get. Voltmer settled one doubt in my mind and that was as to Lapp's ability to carry on before a group. He feels that this is one of his strongest points. While at the field house I also learned that the failure of the Physical Eds office to turn in the results of my qualifying exam.and my French exam.
