Allen Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I.really owe you an apology for not having written sooner and I hope and trust you will understand. When I had your letter in California I was nearing the processing time for a discharge from the Navy. Unfortunately for me I was not releasedas earyy as I had anticipated and as a result I did not arrive back in the home state until last week, Upon arrival I was offered a position for this spring here at the high school with the opportunity to return to my former position as coach, next fall. The board was kind enough in a financial way tha’ I could hardly afford to pass it up. Your suggestion of a possible connection at the University while doing graduate work was fully appreciated . Had I not been so late I might have decided to attend rather than teach but under the circumstances I feel I did the best thing. I was sorry to learn that Gib went on active duty but it appears that you will do pretty well from here on out. The lad should be out in time to do you some good again in another year. It was quite a treat for him to play at the best basketball school in the area and a real break to be playing with a fellow like Charlie Black. "Red" Huffman tells me that they worked pretty well together. - Again I wil& thank you for your answer to my inquiry and your interest. Before too long I hope to get close enough to be able to absorb a few pointers on basketball.
