“ley 6, 1943. Mr. John F. Lance, Kensas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kansas. ‘ Dear Joi: Pardon me in not snawering your kind letter, in which you enclose congratulations for our basketball team. It is very nice of you to express yourself as you do. | I have delayed answering your letter thinking that I would set forth some reasons why eny rule that would prohibit the defensive team from touching the ball on the basket and per- mitting the offensive team to touch it would be discriminatory against the defensive team. In -any court of law « rule or a law that discriminates against one side does not hold. Therefore, the only rule that would not be disoriminatory, giving both sides an equal chance, would be the higher basket. I was amazed that the N.C.A.A. would not have enough legal knowledge to make such a ridiculous rule as‘they did. Such rule only adds disrespect for rule-makers. With all good wishes to you, I am Sincerely yours, Direotor of Yhysical Education, FOA:AH | Varsity Basketball Coach.
