HL RODEN ThE TNIV ERSIFY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. UNIVERSITY PARK= LOS ANGELES January 7, 1943 Dr. Forrest C. Allen, Physical Ed. Dept., University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: I just thought I would drop you a line to let you know where I am and what I am doing. The writer of this letter, as the signature will show, is Marvin Levand, and here is hoping you remember this "kid." I remember the last time we were together was for the K.U.-0.U. game last season at Norman. We rode the train together down to Norman, and it was one swell time, even if we didn't win the game. At that time, when I was still in high school, I was planning on attending the University of Missouri. We had a nice conversation about that, and I have always appreciated the things you have told me and the fine esteem you also have of my father, Mr. "Max." When you received my announce- ment of having graduated from high school, you sent me a fine letter which I shall always keep. Well, instead of ending up at Missouri, I am now at the University of Southern California, but my major is still journal- ism. I noticed in today's paper where your swell team just walloped M.U., so that kind of reminded me of "old times,” thus the reason for the letter. With the three years experience behind me of reporting, uhder the guidance of our friend Jack Copeland, I was working as a sports reporter on the school paper, the Daily Trojan. After a while, however, I thought I would try something new, so now I am Publicity Director for the El Rodeo, the SC yearbook. It seems as though K.U. and SC played side by side on the eastern trip during the holidays, and both teams did a mighty fine job. We play California Friday night, and I am anxiously awaiting the game. I am just wondering who I would root for if SC should play K.U.? 3 How are all the boys on your team? Say hello to Ray Evans for me and John Buescher also, if he is still around. They are a couple of swell boys, as are all the men on your team. I don't recall at the moment just how many of them I still know personally, but here is wishing the best of luck to them. I am in the Naval ROTC and V-1, so I should be here a while.
