Dear "Phog":

Thank you very much for remembering us. Your thoughtful
gesture is genuinely appreciated by the sender of this letter.
Here's hoping that I shall be able to reciprocate one day in the
near future.

Immediately after receiving your letter with military
data attached, I contacted Mr. Gus Ware of the U. S. Rubber Company
in New York City. I quote from his letter;

"Acknowledging your letter of July 2/th to Mr. A. C. Ware:
We wish to advise that we are producing on War Orders
only, black training shoes to meet requirements of the
physical training program of the special detachments at
the various colleges and universities.

In view of the directive from Washington we have found it
necessary to sell these shoes direct to the various insti-

tutions for government agencies involved at the price of
$1.85 net.

‘We will have our Kansas City Branch contact the University
of Kansas for their requirements."

I trust that these sentences are self-explanatory.

If you should be near Notre Dame during the summer, "Phog",
we should love to have you drop in for a round of golf or at least a
visit,
