Pred: Pardon my failure to answer your good letter of May 19th, sooner. I was indeed happy to hear from you and to learn that George Baxter at the State University of Iowa is a good friend of yours. I had the pleasure of a visit with him and was delighted with his personality. I was asked by our Chancellor along with other faculty members, my choice. And you can rest assured that he was number one on my list of recommends. There was one other among our candidates that appeared here who made a profound impression upon me but he was unobtainable. I'm very happy, indeed, that we are to have Mr. Smith with us beginning September. It will be a pleasure to know him better. | The fact that Bob made Phi Beta Kappa makes us more proud ‘ of his academic achievements, in view of the fact that he gave part of his time to athletics. We're going through that at the present time, but have made no definite decision. leanor and -Bob have been great pals and | believe it will be a fine thing for both of them, if things work out as they hope. With all good wishes, I an, Sincerely yours, Director of. Physical ‘Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball FCA: re and Baseball Coach.
