Dear Dr. Allen:

I am returning herewith Charly Bayles! check for
Rose Bowl tickets. The tickets were delivered to me
on Monday but in view of the cancellation of the game,
I returned them immediately. Charly will have to travel
to North Carolina if he desires to see the game.

The Commanding General of the Ninth Corps Area has
cancelled many sporting events here on the coast as the
result of defense activities and practice blackouts, which
the authorities have attempted to make us believe are the
real thing. I happen to be a person who does not scare
very easily, and while I believe that we should prepare
for eventualities, I am somewhat disgusted at the method
used. I can't believe that people are quite that gullible.
