C, Allen % Athletic Department University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: How are things back at K.U.? For the past 8 months I have been working for the Navy as head of the test- ing crew at the Port Chicago Inland Storage Area, an Ammunition Depot. I have been wanting to go back to school but since the war started I have been frozen to my jobs and couldn’t get aways Now that the war is over, I would like very much to get a job coaching football and wrestling and at the same time go to school and get my degree. I have been coaching out here on the coast since 1936, assisting Gus Henderson with the Los Angeles Bulldogs and also at Occidental College. Do you suppose there would be any chance of my getting on the coaching staff at school there? If not at K.U., I thought maybe you would have some leads for some other school in the Middle Wests I now have four boys, Peter, Michael, John and Robert-= quite a family’ Give my regards to all my friends back at K.U. and if there is anything you can do to help me, it would be greatly appreciated. My home address is below. Hoping to hear from you soon, I am, Sincerely, J & ee Peter J. Mehringer 972 North Normandie Hollywood, 27, California e
