: I am happy to have received you letter of the 24th instant,
and I am answering you pronto. Maurice will have no dif “iculty in
getting a part-time job in the K.U.-gym. When he stopped by to see
me prior to his trip to California, he mentioned the job and I told
him 0.K. I assure you that I will treat him as I would want someone
to treat one of my own sons. I appreciate your desiring him to earn
_ the money, as this will mature him in e definite way.

I want you and Mrs. Martin to kmow how much I will enjoy
having Maurice on the squad. The fact that you were neighbors a
great many yearns heightens this interest. And the fact that Maurice
and Sonny Hamilton are good friends is also a good consideration. |
But above everything else, Maurice is a good boy. in his own right.
He can carry a load of responsibility becaus® hé is the right type.
I have always been very fond of your son and we want you people to
come down when Maurice plays, because he will be on that Kansas
squad, I can assure you.

’ Regarding the duties of City Councilman, I find them
‘interesting and sometimes a little perplexing, but it always worke
out. We are having a lot of fun. | )
