Albert B. Martin, $14 Woodlawn Ave., Topeka, Kansas, August 21, 1945. Dr. F. C. Allen, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Phog: I have just reveiced a letter from Maurice. He has been working as a linemen on a telegraph gang of the Santa Fe in California this summer. He says that he would enjoy a part time job in the K U gym this coming term to earn part of his way. Chuck Mills (who was his basket ball coach at Topeka High for one seanson) mentioned the possibility to me sometime ago and I relayed it to Maurice. Maurice will probably return hime shortly after the first of September. Maurice intends to try out for the basket ball team. He is 17 (will be 18 in February) and is 614" and weighs 175 or 180 lbs at present. If no gym job is aoad links he can doubtless find some other job as he is pretty well acquainted in Lawrence. He will have saved considerable money during the summer, we will provide some, but he will have to earn a little. I want him to earn his money and I want him to carry a regualr college schedule, which he can do if he has too. Maurice will visit you as soon as he returns but I thought it might be well to write to you in advance, which I am doing without his request. How do you find the duties of City Councilman? Sincerely one f ip ghee fe Wf Def) cml
