McPherson College McPherson, Kansas May 18, 1943 R. E. Mobler, Se. B. ASSISTANT TQ THE PRESIDENT ir. Forest C. Allen Kansas University lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog: It was indeed fine to hear from you, and I shall do all that I can to accomodate you. However, I am afraid my speech will arrive a little too late for your use, and, too, it will be rather thread-worn as most commencement Speeches are. Naturally, the newspaper and radio did not subtract anything from the story that they gave me, but it is true that they had some grounds for everything that was said. To attempt to explain it would be only to alibi. Today's mail brought letters from four states, and everyone I meet on main street reminds me in one way or another of what has happened. I am now planning on buying a gun and shooting the next man who says anything. You are safe as I do not have a gun as yet. You will be interested in knowing that one letter I received came from Dutch Lonborg, whom I know you remember well, Truthfully, I am trying to appreciate the joke, and shall do my best to take it. Sincerely, . R.E. Mohler REM:1s
