April 1, 1943. Mr. Leslie Mann, Pensacola, Plorida. Dear Leslie: I was delighted to have your letter of the 25th ultimo. I have been out of the office and unable to answer your letter sooner. How- ever, I do want you to lmow that I would be delighted to have a young man of your physical prowess and versatile capabilities in our department. Les, I doubt if we will have football next year, and if we do I believe the Athletic Board will ask a young man who is in our Depart- ment of Physical Education to take over. He is Henry Shenk, who played on the 1927, '28 and ‘29 varsity football team here and has been out in the state doing a fine job in his conching work. We called him back here three years ago and he is doing great work. Bill Hargiss wont into industrial work and Gwinn Henry resigned. They have asked Mr. Shenk to take over track, after Bill and Gwim relinquished their track coaching jobs here. I certainly want to keep you in mind and if anything does open up in @ coaching way I will certainly let you know. Webraska still has Glenn Presnell, but I am not sure whether he will stay for the fall sport, as I am not sure about his age. The Presnell's do not have any We are not sure of the physical conditioning program for the future. It seems as if there has been a decided slow-up in the way of the Engineers and the Navy men coming in. The Chancellor is not committing himself until they show up. We have three full time men on our physical education staff at the present time and have been using advanced students and leaders to drill our 1800 men who are taking _gompulsory physical education. About a third of those have gone since the semester opened. I am glad to know that Leslie is an Insign in the Navy, and doing well. Bobby, my youngest son, is a junior in the Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania. All the children are doing well and are happy, I hops. on ae en ee Mam and ynaeeif. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, FCAsH Varsity Basketball Coach.
