Allen Director of Physical Education & Recreation University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I wish to thank you very kindly for your letter of October 23 in reply to mine, concerning the Exercycle. I am afraid that if I bought one of these outfits it might prove to be a fad and that would be just too bad. It certainly is amusing how some people try to get out of doing work, and do not possess the will power to do that which they know is best for them. Confidentially, I can tell you that a recent acquaintance of yours, and who has since become a distant relative, is using the Lang arch and foot normalizer very religiously. I got the day nurse, which we have had for Mrs. Mons't mother, to try the normalizer yesterday and she thought her feet were being broken in two. I have gotten Mrs. Mons to try it a few times, and now that we are getting back to somewhere near normal, I think I will be able to get her to use it regularly and with compensating results. I have just talked to Jane on the telephone, who seems to be quite happy, although Elwood is laid up with a cold today. By the way, why don't you and Mrs. Allen plan to come on to Chicago for Thanksgiving. Mr. Wigglesworth and I are planning on going to Cincinnati by plane tomorrow evening, and I will stop on the way back and have a little visit with Harriet and Jack and Susan at Columbus. I almost forgot to tell you that we enjoyed very much receiving a call from Mary and her husband, whom we were also glad to meet. With kindest regards to all of you. Cordially, ae P. S. I have been home for several days nursing a cold, but thanks to osteopathic treatments, am almost back to normal. Usually, head colds I get are followed with a laryngitis, but I hope this has been warded off this time as Dr. Larson, the osteopath I go to gave mé several diathermy treatments to my throat, which were administered through a collar wrapped around my neck. I showed him the Lang arch and foot normalizer and he is going to recommend it to a patient of his who has had considerable trouble with her feet. Under separate cover I am mailing you a brochure describing "Exercycle", and will appreciate hearing from you as to whether you think it has any real merit. It sells for $298, and I am wondering whether a better price could be gotten through some of your friends. Please do not go to any trouble, nor do anything that will in any way embarrass you. As Mr. Wigglesworth is not at the office today, I am enclosing a firm check for these and charging them to his account. , Mr. Wigglesworth has asked me to express his thanks to you for your kindness in securing these clubs for him and I know that he will get as much of a "kick" out of them: as I have out of mine. Mrs. Mons and I attended a wedding Saturday afternoon, so golf was out of the schedule for me but even if there had been no wedding, it rained here all day, so I didn't feel as badly as I might have otherwise. Despite wet fairways I could not resist the temptation of playing eighteen holes yesterday afternoon, and you will be interested to know that those new wooden clubs are certainly getting warmed up. I am delighted with them. I have just talked to Jane, who sends you and her mother her love, and has asked that you send her Eleanor's address; she said she would like to hear from home but guesses it is her fault not having written you recently. The Rock River Conference of the Methodist Church opens at our church tomorrow morning and we will be hosts to them through Sunday, So you may imagine that we are pretty busy at our home right now. Klwood is helping usher Wednesday night, so Jane and he will hear our favorite Dr. Richard G. Raines of Hennepin Avenue, Methodist Church, Minneapolis, who is to give the address that evening. We are all well and happy and hope that you and yours are. With kindest regards, I am Cordially, HWM*O Airmail October 15, 1941 ir. I @id not order golf balls because you did not speci- — fy then. If Mr. Wigglesworth wants them you just let me know and I will have a dozen sent him by mail.
