And let it not be "a merry Christmas" but "A Happy Christmas" this year. Get the difference? Was it not "happiness" rather than "merriment" which Jesus brought to a troubled world? And was it not love, happiness and devotion he sought in the home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus? And was it not happiness that he brought into that humble Judean home a little less than two thousand years ago? Yes, this is a serious Christmas which we face this year but let it not be a Christmas "black-out". We should make it, must make it "A Happy Christmas". Won't you help make it so? Our local minister made a statement last Sunday which has haunted me all week -- it was this, referring to our Christmas service this coming Sunday: “IT MAY BE DIFFERENT NEXT YEAR. WE MAY NOT HAVE SUCH A CHRISTMAS THEN AS NOW." Doesn't this put one to thinking? Doesn't it make you shud- der? I tell you, this war situation comes mighty close home to me with my one and only son just past eighteen. He's coming home this week end from his first year away at college. How anxious I am to see him and be with him. Yes, the girls are coming home, too. They also will add a lot to our Christmas, but Christmas this year is going to find Allen III foremost in my thoughts, going to find that bond of father and son drawn much closer, going to give him and me a greater appreciation one for the other.
