' April 23, 1942. ir. Fred Montgomery, . Extension Division, University of Kansas. Dear Monty: | 4 @iink Deen tarthowt ent 3 sevperated in your “recruiting” policy pretty well yesterday at Fort _ _ Scott. It was a good thing, because they had people from most of the other schools - Pittsburg, — State, and even the Navy. Mr. Markkem was chairman of the general assembly, ami they met in the auditorium. We were to be there at 10 o'clock for conferences, and we got there at 9:40. We walked into the auditorium and Mr. Markham digressed from his speech to introduce us informally, a Dean Swarthout". We got a big play. I met two fine groups in conference; one group of 53 students who indicated Physical Education as their first . @hoice, and another group of 45 students who indicated this | field as their second choice. I don't know whether those whom we had in conference came to see the monkey, or were actually interested in Physical Education. Anyhow, I thought we had very profitable meetings. | We had luncheon with the entire group, which in- cluded two men from the U. S. Navy. a. groups, tut we ran a close second. I don't know whether it was the uniform, or the officers, but perhaps both. Mr. Gemmell of Kansas State and five of his group were there. we brought two ee se ee ES ee ee oe ferences. Altogether it was a big pow-wow. Sincer om ely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, PCA: AH. Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
