PAUL MASONER GARNETT, KANSAS ‘ January 16, 1940: Dr, Bas G. Allen Robinson Gym University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: Lf. am writing this letter to let you know how things are progressing here at school. Up to this time I'm enjoying my work a great deal. » It is all very interesting and keeps me continually on’ my toes. One thing which makes it interesting is the fact that something new happens every day which must be overcome or taken in stride. All aren't pleasant and all aren't unpleasant; but it is the mixture that keeps one on the move, At the present in basketball, we have won six and lost one. Two victories and one deféat in the league. I have a swell bunch of kids to work with and I believe the makings of a swell tean, barring unforeseen accidents or happenings, t have seen three of you're games this winter and have been impressed greatly by the team's action. I'm surely hoping as strong as possible for the Big Six Championship, but I realize that no team is a set-up as shown last Friday evening. That must have been a great one to win. On February 12th you play Iowa State at Lawrence and { was planning on bringing some of my boys up since we have no game that week. Would it be possible to get a rate on tickets for them? There are some who have never Seen a Kansas basketball team play and I've told them they've never seen basketball until they do, so they have ,. been on me to bring them up. thanks for your attention. I have had the genuine pleasure of attending the alumni banquets each year in the early spring, and I have been thrilled at the wonderful progress that Kansas Alpha has made. At the present timc her scholar- ship average is 1.56, and the men's all-school average is 1.27. Phi Psi is a very representative group on Mt, Oread. During the past year, we have had two Phi Beta Kapnas, two Sachems, one member of Owl Society, two football lettermen, thrce basketball lettermen, two track lettermen, and three cups in intramural fall sports; the cditor of the Jayhawkor, presi- dont of the Pachacamac political party, prosident of Delta Sigma Pi, and at the present time there are, inthe chapter, members in Delta Sigma Pi, Signa Delta Chi, Seabbard and Blade, Theta Tau, Phi Delta Phi, and Nu Sigma Nu, as well as the business manager of tho Sour Owl. Dear Dr. Allen: When in Lawrence on December 5th, I stopped in your office to discuss with you MULTIPLEX All-Steel Lantern Slide Cabinets. At the time of my call you were out of town. However, I talked with secretary. I was advised that you were starting a collection of lantern slides and would need an efficient system of filing and displaying them after the collection became a little larger. I left with your secretary our catalog and price list. The thought comes you will be putting through your requisition for the cabinet and a few frames to start, as additional frames can be added as necessary. Miss Martha Tillman, Executive Secretary, N.Y.A., University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Miss Tillman: ' In regard to my applic&tion, dated January 25,1940, for part time employment by the National Youth Administration, I wish to give you the addi- tional information. My father has been dead for seven years and my mother has been trying to continue in the small business which he started, as well as keep house. It is impossible for her to help both my brother and me through College. In addition to the references I have furn- ished on my application, I have several others. L.E.Painter,1245 Kellam Avenue, Topeka, Kansas will vouch for my character and need. As to my drafting ability J.H.Hoshner, Topeka High School, and E.L. Johnson, Master Mechanic, John Morrell & Company, Topeka, Kansas will gladly furnish information. Without any employment it would be necessary for me to commute to school from Topeka. As this would be inconvenient and wovld interfere with my best effort in school work and school activities, I feel that it is an absolute necessity that I obtain employment of some sort. I will need at least twenty ($20.00) dollars a month to carry me through this semester of school.
