WILLIAMS DONALD C. MARTINDELL We =. Vener SUITE 601 WOLCOTT BUILDING J. HUBERT ELSE TELEPHONE 2154 ei HUTCHINSON, KANSAS January 14, 1939 : 4 Mr. Forrest C. Allen Lawrence, Kansas Dear Friend "Fog? Justice Wedell and the writer have decided to take our wives to be svectators at the Kansas-Missouri basketball game on January 18, provided the weather is so Mrs, Martindell and I can drive to Topeka that afternoon. Our plans are to meet Judge Wedell in Topeka and to drive on over to Lawrence together for the game. Judge Wedell and the writer are "K" men and of course entitled to "K" ticket entrance. Will you be kind enough to advise me that you will have four reserved seat tickets held for us at the a gate until game time January 18? s The schedule which I received some time ago states on the back that all games start at 7:50 o'clock. Please inform me if this is correct and if the Mis- souri game will start at that time. JI would ask you to send the tickets to me except for the fact that the weather might be such that it would be too dan- gerous to make the trip and the tickets might be wasted if it was impossible for us to get there. As you will not receive this letter until Monday, I would appreciate it very much if you will give me a reply by return mail so that I may know Tuesday that the reserved seats have been taken care of. Hoping that we can see K U beat Missouri as of old and see you at the game, I am : D. C. MARTINDELL. S. DOBYNS, Superintendent “ BILBO MONAGHAN, Athletic Director Ppeof. F. C. Allen Director of Physical Hducation Jniversity of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Sits This is aS. 0. S. from one basketball coach to another, from a deaf coach of a deaf basketball team that has been going Places but not quite getting there. The Mississippi School for the Deaf has an enrollment of about 176--little less than half are boys ranging in age from 6 to 21. It has a good basketball team, no bragging BUT twice it has been forced to take second honors in the National Basketball Tournaments of Schools for tle Deaf--two years ago at Jacksonville, Tllinois, and last year at New York City. Last year it also took the State Runners-Up to put our team out of the running. We will have almost the same team this year, so I am beg- ging your aid--I tins afford attendance at a coaching school. T have been advised that you are having an excellent book on has- ketball printed, but none of my informants could tell me exactly where I can get a copy. Will you please supply this information? Otherwise, if you are not having a book printed, can you please suggest a good book on basketball and also state from whom I can order it? Thanking you in advance for such service as you can give, I am Yours very sincerely; THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY LAWRENCE September 16, 19358 Dre Forrest C. With very cordial regards, I am Sincerely, Lagmond C Iaverg. Raymond C. Moore 1503 First Avenue Dodge City, Kansas September 18, 1938 Dre Forrest C. Allen Department of Physical Education Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I want to tell you how much I appreciated your letter of congratulation. It was so thoughtful of you. As busy as you are you always seem to find time to think of the least of us! Mr. Toalson, before he hired me, said you gave me some very good recommendations, and I am sure that did a lot for me. I am saving the carbon copies you wrote to Salina. Mr. Waring said he didn't feel he could hire two inexperienced teachers. Although I would have liked to work with Ruth, I can readily understand why Salina could not take two who were new at teaching. I am very happy with this position. I don't believe there is a finer principal than the one I have. He is doing everything he can to help me and it certainly makes these first few weeks a lot easier. I am looking forward to your visit here in January and hope the reports you hear of your former student are those you expect.
