STATE OF WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CHEYENNE JACK R. GAGE STATE SUPERINTENDENT December 7, 1937 Mr. Forest C. Alien Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phoge"s Apparently our good friend, Ralph Childs, has the ability of a diplomat, however, if he knew the true picture, his report would have been much different to yous The work here is very agreeable and gives one an opportunity to develop by new and different experiences. One bad feature to the job is that I have to do considerable traveling throughout the State which takes me away from home. too muche I tell Mrs. Markley I am the right age for a traveling man - not so young that I have a surplus of energy to spend on other things and not old enough yet to have reached that foolish agee The experiences I am having far out-shadow this one bad feature. Mr. Morgan of Gillette, who was on the Athletic Board at the time of your visit, and I were talking about you and your visit to Wyoming just last week. Although your "lumbago" bothered you considerably, your visit was timely and many of the fellows still speak favorably of your work while here. We still watch with interest the record of the Jay Hawk team, and of course the alumni ha@to be satisfied with the basketball record rather than the football record for many years. We thought when the team beat Oklahoma and tied Nebraska that they were invincible. The "Agcies" soon changed that idea. I have met Gwynn Henry and all the fellows at C. of E. praise him most highly so I know he has what it takes to make a success of the job there. I still do a little Rocky Mountain football officiating so you know that my interest in the sport is still intact. Mrs. Markley joins me in sending best wishes to you and yours. Sincerely yours, Le Markidy Commissioner of Education RLM:R
