EARLE G. BROWN, M. D. COMMISSIONER BOARD OF HEALTH BENJAMIN R. ALLISON, M. D. CHAIRMAN RICHARD DERBY, M. D. MRS GENESTA M. STRONG REV. ARTHUR B. KINSOLVING, 2nbD CHARLES NELSON DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BAR BUILDING. MINEOLA, N.Y. WILLIAM H. RUNCIE, M..D. DEPUTY COMMISSIONER January 3,1941 Dr. Forrest C. Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Doctor Allen: Many thanks for your note of December 25th. I regret that it was not possible for us to meet in New York when you were here, but Mr. Barron tells me that he had a short visit with you after the game. Mrs. Brown was losing ground rapidly when I last wrote you on December 16th. We moved her to the hospital on December 19th, and I called Josephine by long distance telephone on the night of the 18th. She arrived on Thursday night and Mrs, Brown was under the influence of morphine so did not recognize any of us. However, we returned to the hospital on the morning of the 20th and she recognized all of us and had a short visit with Josephine. Death came at about five twenty-five on the evening of the 2lst. She had suffered extremely with the numerous attacks of pain, especially during the past two months. I am presuming that Bob is registered at the University of Pennsylvania, that is,tlam he has successfully met his personal interview and will enter there next fall. I have taken the liberty of writing .. the Nu oys there as per copy enclosed. I hope that this meets with your approval and also that he will become a member of the fraternity. Perhaps it would be best not to show him this letter, at least for the present. With kind regards,, Yours very truly, ae ae EGB: DEB
