Dear Doc:

I have delayed writing to thank you for your fine letter
until I had something definite to report. Have now definitely
received an appointment as Lieutenant (J.G.) imthe Naval Reserve.
Bon't know yet to what indocrination school I will be sent.

I do want to say that I'm sure that your letter was a
great help to me. The Navy man in Montana who helped me with
my application said that your letter was the best out of over
500 similar ones he had seen--in that it completely covered
every qualification that the Navy wanted to find out about.

When I took my application to Seattle, my first inter-
view happened to be witha Navy officer who in the 1920's had
taught school and coached in several small Kansas towns. He
was not a K.U. graduate but was notéceably impressed when he
saw your signature.
