dn every man's life there are men who make profound
impressions on you. You are one of those fellows, Doc.

I sat there last night and saw you lose a ball game
without ever whincing. I saw you take a bunch of
youngsters -- two of them great ball players of course --
and develop a championship outfit. To me the task seemed
insurmountable. You did this thing because of your tre-
mendous energy, bull-dog tenacity, abundant enthusiasm,
and exceptional ability as a coach. If thosé boys who
have a chance to spend three or four years with you could
only realize that you are teaching them the rudiments of
success in later life. The things that make you so success-
ful as a coach are the traits which make anyone successful
in business,

May the Good Lord bless you with the good health necessary
to continue your good work.

Personally, I count every hour spent with you the most
valuable in my college life.
