65 As it is desirable to use as many students as possible in your program the suggestion is offered that students who are handicapped or physically unable to participate in contests be used in many of these student positions. Athletic associations and womens! athletic or recreation associations which are closely related to. the intramural program are also organizations where student leadership can be developed. A study of girls' athletic associations in the Secondary School Objectives, Organization Program, a bulletin published by a committee of the Boston group of the Women's Division, National Amateur Athletic Federation, lists some objectives which attempt to express what an athletic association should hope to accomplish. One of these objectives is "To develop student-conducted activities, thus en- couraging leadership." Outstanding girl athletes with an interest in such activities are the moving spirits in most such organizations. These clubs, like all others, can use those people who are willing to work for the common benefit of all. Bulletin boards, school papers, assembly announcements, etc. are valuable avenues of publicity. There is some feeling against awards because of the taint of commercialism. With the finances usually available, this is a very faint taint indeed; and awards do much to interest competitors.
