If your line hits water continually aheadof leader and fly, you can correct this by either raising tip slightly at end of forward cast or by pulling in a little line at that point to check line momentarily in the air to permit the leader to roll out and settle in the water first. STUDENT CONTROL The trend in intramural athletics is toward student control. One of the reasons for this is the desire to make the student feel that it is his program. If the student has the feeling of individual ownership he will accept more responsibility and do everything in his power to make the program a success. This tends also to develop leadership among the students. Another reason for increasing student control is that it relieves the director of many routine duties, enabling him to spend more time supervising and developing his program. Now let us consider some of the positions and duties that can be assigned to the students. Publicity Bureau The personnel of this group should be selected in cooperation with the Journalism or English departments of the school. Their duties have been discussed earlier in this chapter. Intramural Council This council should include in its personnel the intramural director, the student manager, a faculty member and the intramural secretary. Their duties would include the formulating of a body of rules and regulations effecting eligibility, and protested games. Student Manager _ The duties of the student manager are very important; therefore they call for a student who is completely dependable. He works with the director and is directly responsible to him. His duties include the notification of the team managers of the schedule, and the field managers concerning their duties, and the assignment of officials, scorekeepers and timekeepers. Intramural Secretary The duties of the intramural secretary include the recording of points earned by each individual and each team in all activities included in the program. It is also his responsibility to make public the standing of teams from time to time. The results of all contests are in his hands, and he is directly responsible to the student manager. Team Manager The team manager should be elected by his team or organization; he is directly responsible to the student manager. It is his duty to see that his team is or- ganized and ready to appear when it is scheduled to play. Ohio State University lists the following duties of a good team manager.
