THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY COLUMBUS DEPARTMENT OF PuysiIcAL EpucaTIon L. W. Sr. Joun, Director — March 17, 1939 Dr. Forrest C. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear *Phog": I wish to congratulate you again on the way you hendled the matter of selecting a team in District #5. I know you had a pretty hard nut to crack but I have the feel- ing you cracked it in a very fine manner. I am glad to know that the playeoff held at Oklahoma City was successful from the standpoint of attendance and finances. I have the feeling, as I indicated to you earlier, thet inasmuch as the N.C-A.A. in this first season didn't feel they could guarantee play-offs within the districts, and would, therefore, not assume any financial risk in con= nection with them, that it is only proper that the teams which do compete should take the major share of whatever money is made.by such an event. There is, of course, some reason, 1 feel, for the N.C.A.A. General Committee coming in for some small cut, because if it were not for the fact that these teams were competing with the end in view of sex lection of representative for the N.c.A.A. Tournament, of course the play-off in District #5 would not have been held. Under the circumstances, it seems to me that if the NeCeAsAe Tournament Committee were to come in for a share, let us say 20%, of the net profits that that would be a fair proposition. I hope you can handle this matter in that Way e Congratulations againand best regards. Very sincerely yours, Wy 4 H. G. Olsen Chairman, N.C.A.A. Basketball HGO:M Tournament Committee COme B.
