Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I received the check for the additional bill paid by Mr. Barry to the Phillips Hotel, but as yet we have not received a check for the orig- inal bill which we sent, which was railroad, Pullman, and hotel bill for the twelve men. I am writing this letter because from your letter to Sam I rather concluded that you were of the opinion that the check had been mailed. I thought I had better notify you that we have not received it. I am very glad to have the information which you have given to Sam in respect to having the expense allowance based on fifteen men rather than twelve and I am hopeful that it will work out this way. I think that you are to be congratulated on the very successful outcome of the tournament and I note what you say in reference to the ear-marking of funds turned over to the National Collegiate Athletic Association. There is one point, however, which I mentioned to Sam and might call to your attention, and that is that as far as the future of basketball is concerned, if the National Collegiate Athletic Association will assume the responsibility of the continuity of these tournaments in the way of underwriting them, perhaps it is just as well to have the protection of the Association backing up the tournaments by general funds. Of course I want to say that I will be glad to assist in any way that I can to work out something conducive to the best interest of basket- ball and the wishes of the basketball coaches.
