DRAKE UNIVERSITY DES MOINES, [OWA _ OFFICE OF Varch 9, 1939 THE BUSINESS MANAGER Dre Fe Ceo Allen, Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc; I am sorry if I appeared to be discourteous or over-exercized when we were talking by telephone yesterday. The chairman of our Athletic Council was with me at the time and he and others of the council were a bit discouraged and of the opinion that the whole business seemed to be a very difficult set up for the competition of northern teamse Obviously the two Oklahoma teams will have a six or eight- point handicap and we did not want this to be increased by officials who worked exclusively in the south. We do. not doubt the integrity of any of these gentlemen, but we are sure from some of our experiences that their interpretations | are different sometimes from those of this sectione However, we are very happy with the choice of Parke Carroll and Jack North. They are capable officials and square shooters, and we know that Oklahome University, Oklahoma A. and Me and Drake will receive an even break in the officiat- inge We never expect anything more. I know this whole thing has been a hard job for you and that it would have been much easier and more pleasant for you to have remained at home and avoided the work and inconvenience. We are thankful to you for your efforts. With sincere good wishes, I am Ee Ce Lytton Business Manager rt
