HONORARY PRESIDENT FIRST VICE PRESIDENT JASKETBALL COACHES EDWARD J. HICKOX, SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE SECRETARY-TREASURER January 22, 1940 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Director of Basketball University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: In order that we may have an outstanding speaker for our annual banquet meeting to be held in connection with our national coaches meeting, I am bringing the matter to your attention at this time and shall be pleased to leave the selection of this man entirely in your hands. You should know the men from your immediate section who would do us a good job on such an occasion. I am sure you know what we would like to have and certainly there are men in that section who could handle such an assign- ment well. As a suggestion along this line, I would like to see a man who knows both the coaching side and also the academic side of a university, some one who might discuss the tenure of the coaching profession, the import- ance of a close association of our athletic coaches with the faculty of their respective colleges and universities, and related matters. In other words, looking to the future, which I am sure is to come shortly, the coaches as members of the faculty with faculty ranking, somewhat with insurance on their jobs. I am certain that many of the coaches are inter- ested in this important movement today and some one who is able to discuss it, would, I believe, be well received at our banquet. Please interpret these things merely as suggestions and feel free to get any one you care to. Very truly yours, .jGrdver, resident N. A. Be C. BTG d
