UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR MEN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA April 1, 1940 Mr. Forrest Allen Director of Physical Education and Recreation Varsity Basketball Coach Department of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas © My dear Mr. Allen: We have your letter of March 26, recommending Mre Eugene Billups of the University of Kansas for a graduate teaching fellowship, for which he has applied, at the University of California at Los Angelese We wish to thank you for your kindness in sending us this frank statement of your, opinion of him as a prospective graduate student. Students who are applying for a teaching fellow- ship,at the University of California at Los Angeles must. not only have the recommendation of the de- partment, but must have maintained in their under~ graduate years a fairly high scholastic standing. At the University of California at Los Angeles these fellowships are given usually to those stu- dents whose scholarship shows an average of better than B. Fellowships are also granted only to students desirous of obtaining the Master's degree, and are not considered if their sole purpose is that of getting the General Secondary Credential for the State of California. I assure you that we shall give this recommendatim our very careful consideration. urs very truly, of John Fe Bovard, Chairman Department of Physical Education JFB :MS
