GC: Allen, Director of Athletics University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phos": Upon receipt of your letter I mailed you special delivery five hundred letterheads and five hundred envelopes of the National Associ- ation of Basketball Coaches. I do not exactly like the setting of the stationery but hope it will meet with your approval for the first time. No official action was ever taken about making Dr- Naismith "Honorary President", but I thought we should do so, and I hope that this also will meet with your approval. I hope at your earliest convenience you will write to our eastern representatives-- Ortner of Cornell, McLaughry at Brown, Novak of the Army and Tebell of North Carolina State and E. J. McNichol of University of Pennsylvania. I think it will be a wise move to get these men supporting this meeting at Chicago during the Interscholastic Basketball Tournament. While in the East, I had a long talk with McLaughry of Brown. He was very enthusiastic about our Association. However, he tells me that Coach Hd Wachter of Harvard thinks they should have an eastern association of basketball coaches wal ch. ne (McLaughry) is discouraging in view of the National Association. If you can get McLaughry or Ortner to suggest to Wachter that he join this association it would kill that j idea entirely, and this would truly be national in scope. Since Mathews has resigned at St. Louis, it might be a good plan to suggest to Wachter that he act in his eapacity for this year. . I have talked this association to all of the basketball. coaches I saw in the Bast and those I come in contact with through the middle- west and west. All are enthusiastic and express. the intention of attending the meeting at Chicago.
