PERRIN FIELD © ARMY AiR FORCES BASIC FLYING SCHOOL OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER SHERMAN, TEXAS. November 4, 1944 Dear Dr. Allen, Those few persons who claim "George Washington slept here" can e feel no mpre proud than I for €H& bed I rested in last Saturday night ag can claim "Phog Allen slept here." : S ik aS Scan ge ene ERE pate pe heir ean == ea See SeaTac gain Mild eA os toe epee cee iat You see I was the guest of Harold Keith and family and he said you were the last to use the particular bed referred to. I really had one wonderful weekend for Harold is surely one to make things pleasant. Pfe "Hobo" Gilstrap, who slept in Keith's basement while he played basketball and starred in track for 0.U. last year, refered to Harold as "the best man on the 0.U. campus." Gilstrao, of Ardmore, was up for the weekend games and took me as far as his home Sunday night. it arrived in Norman Saturday afternoon and went with Harold on over to Taft Stadium, Okla. City, to get the press box in readyness for the OU-TCU game that night.- Of course it was the same thing the \g next afternoon for the Norman NAS Zoomer-2nd AF Supsrbomber ZAamMe y but I enjoyed it all. A buck private felt important for a change} At least I had a choice seat high in the press box beside a Texaz Tech scout, Basketball Coach Robison, Sat. night, and had a side lines pass which permitted me to follow the ball down the didelines Sunday. And no colonol could say he saw either game from the vantage point I was so fortunate to have. But that's trifling; what I enjoyed so much was to have the opsortunity to be with a man whomwl greatly admire and who is an expert in a vocation I am interested in following. And, say, Mrs. Keith made the best biscuits Sunday morning; and Harold had to tell me about his sneaking her prize jelly into the fair and then surprising the Mrs. by taking her up to see the blue ribbon winner, which, of course, turned out to be her very own product. il introduced myself to Ray Evans before the game, and if ever @ man made a fine impression, Ray certainly did. And not only as a gentleman bub as a football player for he even outshone Glenn Dobbs (according to all the "experts" in the press box). Ray scored one touchdown after leading the downfield drive, and nearly sparked another touchdown drive, but the Superbombers bogged down when near the Zoomer goal. Eshmont and Sitco starred for Norman NAB and the Zoomers deserved to win, although no one would have selected them prior to the game. I have been going out for the PF basketball team and have been doing pretty well, at least have been having a lot of fun. Some 25 games have been scheduled with college and service foes so I am in for a lot of fun. The first game is the 15th Nov., but I won't be present for it for I am to get a 5 day furlough Nov. 13 to 20. You
