PUTNAM Chairman October 9, 1941 Mr. Forrest C. Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Coach: For your information, the Naismith Memorial Committee is launching the Golden Jubilee of Basketball campaign on Tuesday, October 14, with an impressive press luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Mayor Roger L. Putnam will be the principal speaker and present with him will be members of the Executive Committee, and two or three players from the original team organized by Dr. Naismith in 1891, Naturally we would like every committee member to attend, but we realize that distance will probably prevent your being present. However, you can appreciate I am sure how much a telegram from you would mean for the complete success of the luncheon. I can assure you that your wire will be read to the gathering, which by the way will include prominent basketball writers, commentators, columnists, and coaches. As a member of our National Coaches' Committee, we want to thank you for your cooperation. The wire should be directed to the Naismith Memorial Committee, in care of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York City. We will send you our first press release next week regarding this national campaign. Sincerely yours,
