Dear Doc:

It's been so long since I have written you and visa versa that
your girl has forgotten how to spell my name whith, of course, is a
heinous crime.

Like you, I wished I might have been there Saturday and the more
I think on second thought the sadder I make myself. I had planned to
be at our Illinois mine this past week end, so availed myself of the
opportunity of seeing Notre Dame-Northwestern play. However, barring
something unforseen of a definitely important nature, I shall be on
hand this coming Saturday with the whole clan.

I have had a lot of surprises over football results but this
one really did give me a pleasant jar. I have just been thinking
thet from all reports on the personnel of this football team that
a guy with a running pass instinct ought to have made a whale of
an offensive team out of this present Kansas gang, and the more zs
see of football the more convinced I am that the running pass, with
the corresponding running threat, is the most interesting to fans
and participants alike and the most receptive of all types of football.

I had a nice visit with Woody, in fact, I went to the game with
hime Our discussion after the game got around to the merits of old
formation X right and left, preferably right, and what a world of
offensive power, properly executed, it gave to the ball carrier.
Needless to say, we decided that any good strong team such as Notre Dame
or Northwestern could have made the opponent look awfully sillye

Concerning the Hammers boys, I have both of them lined up here on
this Jayhawk Ordnance Plant and if they are not at work already they
soon will bee To start with they will be employed on the guard de=
tachment, but being very presentable and likeable boys, I have an idea
we can find something better for them later one
