Mr. Morehouse has worked in my Department this
past year as an assistant instructor. I feel that Mr. Morehouse
is, and should be, one of our very highest type of instructors.
His educational background is of the very best, in Physiology
as well as in Physical Education.

His work is very exacting. He gives minute and
careful detailed attention to daily lesson plans and is interested
in the growth of the student in his classes. He has a pleasant
personality and I wulki not hesitate in recommending hig for
any first-class high school or college. He is especially adapted
to teaching swimming in Physical Education and has excellent
training in administration and organization of a physical edu-
cation program at any level of the teaching program. His
character is excellent and has no bad habits to my knowledge.

Laurence E. MOrehouse was my research assistant
for two years, end as work for the Ph.D. degree
under my direction. am glad to recommend him as a young man
who is intelligent, muamiates, and effective as a teacher
and student. I observed him as a tegcher, since he also
assisted me in my class work. Mr. Morehouse has had a wide
experience in both physical elucation and physiology. I am
sure that anyone who has a vacancy to fill which falls in this
candidate's line will find him very capable. Mrs. Mgrehouse is
a fine young girl who will be an asset to Mr. rehouse whevever

Laurence Ee Morehouse

Mr. Morehouse graduated from Springfield College
and has taken his work for the dector's degree here. During
the three years he has spent on our campus he has developed
and matured remarkably. He is a good student, a hard worker,
and has shown more originality and initiative in lines of
investigation end of devising better teaching methods than an
student I remember having had on this ceampuse He is excellently
prepared in physical education, health education, hygiene, and
physiology. He gives promise of maturing still further within
the next few years. He is cooperative, interested, and would
make, I think, an excellent teacher. I think Mr. Mgrehouse
would be an excellent addition to the staff of any institution
conducting teacher training, especially where graduate work is
being offered. I think that as he gains experience and maturity,
he gives promise of being one of the outstanding men in the
profession.

Tt is not because I am chairman of the University dtive
for membership in the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce that I an writing
you this letter, but rather it is my desire to see you a faculty
meuber of our Chamber of Commerce here. All of the deans, mat of the

heads of departments, Se ee
our Chamber of Commerce.

The dues are $3.75 per quarter, or $25.00 = yar. Since
the Sunflower Ordnance Works have located in and near Lawrence, and
gany of the officers of this project are living in Lawrense, it is the
feeling of the officers of the University and the meubers of the Lawr~-
ence Chanber of Commerce that our faculty members end citizens can
play a very definite part in this war work for volunteers on the home
front. There are a great many officers of the United States Army who are
located here for the duration in this Ordnance plant that are active
members of the Chamber of Commerce, We also have a contingent of about
aix to eight hundred Naval men located here in dormitories on the third |
floor of the Administration buildings. ‘These are officers of the Navy
and many of them are joining the Chamber of Commerce. For this reason,
and other good ones which make the University @ part of ow Lawrence
citizenry, I would like to have your membership for one year. It is
not necessary that you pay at amy specified time. The quarterly pay-
ment is only for the convenience of the members. If you desire not to
meke any payments until the middle of the year when your salary check
comes in it is perfectly agrecable with all concerned.

The regular membership for enyone outside of the University
is $25.00 a year, but since the University people do mot profit financially
by membership in the Chamber of Commerce they make a special faculty
membership rate of $15.00 per year. ‘The Chamber of Comerce mocts weekly
at the Eldridge Hotel and mny veluable friendships end contacts are made
through these metings, —

you have any definite reasons for not belonging, please be ded by your
own desires. However, most of our members in the athletic ae ek

our next Fall's program at K.U. I believe you have my itinerary
umtil August 29. I shall be at the Aquatic Scheol, Colorado
College until July 15.

It was impossible for me to contact “Frosty"™ Cox at
Golorado University during my visit there. If there are
others you would like to have me contact dlong my itinerary,
I should be glad to meet them.

Mrs. Morehouse and I are locking forward to moving to
Lawrence. As.she is an active Pi Phi alum, University Dame,
P.E.0, and Bridge Bnthusiast, I do no& imagine it will take
long for her tc become acquainted.

Ed Blbel has not yet written about his plans for
moving his family to St. Louis. He had reaced no decision .
on this matter when I talked with him in St. Louis.

I have about 5 ton of books and other materials as
