Dear Lerry: Tt is not because I am chairman of the University dtive for membership in the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce that I an writing you this letter, but rather it is my desire to see you a faculty meuber of our Chamber of Commerce here. Since the Sunflower Ordnance Works have located in and near Lawrence, and gany of the officers of this project are living in Lawrense, it is the feeling of the officers of the University and the meubers of the Lawr~- ence Chanber of Commerce that our faculty members end citizens can play a very definite part in this war work for volunteers on the home front. There are a great many officers of the United States Army who are located here for the duration in this Ordnance plant that are active members of the Chamber of Commerce, We also have a contingent of about aix to eight hundred Naval men located here in dormitories on the third | floor of the Administration buildings. ‘These are officers of the Navy and many of them are joining the Chamber of Commerce. For this reason, and other good ones which make the University @ part of ow Lawrence citizenry, I would like to have your membership for one year. It is not necessary that you pay at amy specified time. The quarterly pay- ment is only for the convenience of the members. If you desire not to meke any payments until the middle of the year when your salary check comes in it is perfectly agrecable with all concerned. The regular membership for enyone outside of the University is $25.00 a year, but since the University people do mot profit financially by membership in the Chamber of Commerce they make a special faculty membership rate of $15.00 per year. ‘The Chamber of Comerce mocts weekly at the Eldridge Hotel and mny veluable friendships end contacts are made through these metings, — Please do not fecl that an "high pressuring” you, end if you have any definite reasons for not belonging, please be ded by your own desires.
