To the Director in Charge of Professional Education
Programs in Health Education, Physical Education,
and Recreation

Dear Friend:

Efforts are being made this year to increase the membership in our
national organization by contacting workers in the field, public and
educational libraries, and teachers am students in teacher training in-
stitutions,

This letter is being sent to individuals in approximately four hun-
dred institutions in the United States where majors or minors in physical
education or health education have been established, In case you are not
directly concerned, please hand this letter to the person most likely to
give it attention, In some institutions it may be desirable to have @ man
contact the men students and a woman contact the women students, The
procedure to be followed in each institution can be arranged locally ac-
cording to your wishes,

We should like to request your cooperation in acquainting your major
students, especially juniors and seniors, with the objectives, activities,
and publications of their national professional organization, Student
membership will serve the double purpose of giving them a great deal of
material which can be used in their class work and of making them feel
that they are already members of the profession they are about to enter,

It may interest you to know that Miss Mary Coleman of North Carolina
has sent in memberships for 100% of her senior class; we have received 287
student memberships from the Cortland Normal School in New York; and several
other institutions have very good records as far as student memberships
are concerned,

Picase let me know whether you are willing to undertake this respon-
sibility. A sample membership application blank is enclosed, To save
time simply type the names and addresses of the students who wish to join,
sign your name certifying that they are students, and forward this list
with a check for the amount. We shall be very grateful to you for this
fine professional service,
