I am still working out with the Tulsa Oilers and am receiving some very valuable help with my pitching. I am studying geological engineering. [I would like for you to take as your subject, "So You're on Your Own Now." Such a catch topic can include almost anything that you feel of value to freshmen in their first few weeks of becoming oriented to life away from home, The freshmen will leave by buses from the Union Building at §:00 a.m. to go to Brown's Grove for the day, These buses will return at 9:00 p.m. that evening. You are free to choose whether you wish to go with the buses or drive your own car. The two dis-~ cussion periods that you will be leading will come at approximately two and seven o'clock, If your schedule will permit you to fit into this program, I will wait and make final arrangements with you when I return to Lawrence, If such a schedulg is unsatisfactory, please let me know. I am very glad that you will be able to be with us on this outing again this fall, In the letter you wrote me, the Mr. was crossed out and Rev. written over it} I am sorry that I neglected to write "Jr," after my name - however, I believe that you did know what the Freshman Outing is since you have lead groups in it before. Just in case you did misunderstand the set-up, please let me know also. My position on the YM cabinet is that of Freshman Commission Chairman - hence my job of arranging the Freshman Outing. Best wishes for now and ever! For many years Major Griffith has not selected the officials for non-conference games in Football and Basketball unless the school concerned made the request. Until last year the Major has not been held responsible for the offic iating in his conference. Assigning officials for the non-conference games in basketball is quite a task since the schedules are not made in advance as they are in football. It is necessary from a psycholo- gival view point that all assignments come from the Central office It is not good for officials to be assigned by this office in all instances except the non-conference games in basketball, and then have them make out their non-conf erence schedule on their own. As you know I am perfectly willing to have you make specific request for these non-conference games,to gét #% many new men in action on these games that you may see what they can do. For the most part there has not been requests for mixed crews in basketball between the various conferences;I feel that this may be developed in the very near future, and will eventually make for better and more uniform officialting in basketball. You have seen MacDonald and Harlow in action and I take it from your letter that @ither would be satisfactory with you. I will write Rollie Williams today telling him that I am assigning Parke Carroll to that game, and subject to your approval will accept either Harlow or MacDonald. I have completed assignments for all non-conferene games except those of Kansas. Can you give me your non-conference schedule to-date that I mgy get to work on that. With best regards and all good wishes,I am Sincerely yours, Rorerce ky ae
