June 14th, 1941 Mr. Le H. Petit, Superintendent Chanute City Schools Chanute, Kansas Dear Superintendent Petit: Thank you for your very good letter regarding Mr. Reginald B. Strait, your Director of Physical Education in the Chanute Public Schools. I had a fine conference with Mr. Strait and enjoyed my visit with him very much. However, we had previously engaged Mr. Henry Shenk, an old K.U. football player and a K.U. graduate. He has been connected with the Junction City Public Schools for a number of years and made a great record there. | For a time he was being considered for the principalship of Junction City, which made it highly improbablg” nigh But it is now definitely decided that” will take Mr. DeGroot's place. | We also had Mr. James Raport who went to K.U., to Alabama Polytechnic Institute. We had ko to procure another man in the department to take Mr. Raport's place. But the budget committee has seen fit to curtail the expenditures in the University somewhat for next yeer.and we are afraid that our budgetary allowance will not permit the expenditure necessary to get the type of man Strait is. I do, however, wish to thank you very much for your kindness in writing me. It is our hope, if and when. this fuss is over with Hitler that we will be in a position to have near normalcy again. With all good wishes, I an, Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach. FCAsre
