Of Athletics University of Kansas Lawrence ,Kas, Dear Phog: Glad to get your letter of the 3rd and will do my best to correct the wrong impressions concerning Miller and Reid which you mentioned. I had no idea anyone woud connect Miller with the knee incident due to his inspired play but them newspaper readers’ mind is sometimes unpredictable. I understood that Reid left K.U. because of the lack of money but having no substantial basis for the report I couldn't print it. T'm sorry there was so much fuss about that crack I made about Nesmith. I'm.enclosing my column containing the line and I shall appreciate your telling him that it I meant no ebitisism. It was merely a game note and I thought perhaps Dean would like seeing his name in the paper. Itm sure that you don't need a trainer to convey instructions to your team and that you would be the last to resort to such tactics. There was no thoueht of a rule infraction when I wrote the line and I'm sincerely sorry if it eaused you or Dean any undue worry or trouble. I'm doing my best to keep humor in my writing because I think many writers and sportsemen, including coaches and players, peeome stale when they take the game, whatever it may be,too seriously. Life is much too short to worrv and fret about some small incident which will soon be forgotten. Right know I'm worrying about the football situation at Kansas state. Williamson, in my opinon is being rea&lroaded out of the picture because certain members of the council haven't the guts to stand by him. But life is like that and we have to make the best of it. I enjoyed your letter,Phog, and am looking forward to hearing from you again. I shall appreciate any suggestions you might have at any time and you can rest assured they will be taken in the right manner, Verv truly yours, | ae —— February 9, 1940. ttre le Ta Porter, “2l'Sos LaSalle Ste, Chicago, Tllinoise Dear He V Ernst Ae Unlaub, who graduated fron the University of Kensas in 1921, is asking sone favors of yous lie was my captain in his senior year and has been teaching at Arlansas City and Salina, Kansas, for about eighteen years. I did want to tell you how much I appreciated your efforts in my Mother's behalf towards obtaining for her the House Mother job at the Sig Ep House at Lawrence for this coming year. Pattersons may Thank you for your kind letter of the Zend instante We think the bleck and white maricings on the basketball court make a womlerful improvencnt, especially for a floor thet is dark. The broken lines enphasize the court mridngs, thus aiding spectators, officials and players to a great degrees The court may be marked at a very minimal cost, and wo believe in its benefits very strongly. The black line is broken every six inches. with a two inch white square on the center the free throw lines and the boumdary lines.
