Drs Fe Co Alien, Dept. of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Hello "poc"; I just found out a few days ago that a new basketball coach and teacher in the Dept. of Physical Education is going to be hired at North High School here in Wichita, and due to the fact that our business didn't prove very satisfactory, I am applying for the job. T have been having some good interviews with the teachers committee of the school board, and I believe that I have a fair chance for the job, due largely to my experience under you at Kansas University. I am asking you and Ed. Elbel each to write a letter of recommendation to lr. Re He McAllister, who is head of the Dept. of Physical Education here in the wichita Schools, and whom I am sure you know. These vacancies, football and basketball, are not being announced generally, but rather, they are choosing a few men and approaching them for the job. I have been told that Ralph conger is being considered very strongly for the football job, and among the applicants for the pasketball job is another one of your boys, Ernie Vanek. The pressure is being put on for a winning team in both high schools here, because the smaller Ark Valley schools have kept Wichita in the cellar for some time. So whoever gets the assignment will have a pretty tough job because you know how keen /rk Velley competition is. IT would appreciate it very much "Doc" if you will write a letter for me and I know that it will carry a lot of weight with this school board. ; Please extend my regards to your family, and to that bunch of sophomores who did a swell job. With kindest personal regards, I am yours very SPT by ¢ ay’ A. Plumley 543 No. Delrose, Wichita, Kansas. OHESTER A. SARGENT, Sup’t. J. KH. KISSELL, Director T. R. MONROE, H. 8. Prin, G. O. I find thet he now ranks very highly among our é¢andidates and I am having him come for an interview this weekend. I have been uneble to find out anything other than complimentary about this man, end since everything is so complimentary, I am wondering if you know any reason why he has remained in high school work so long. In other words, is there some weakness in this man that accounts for the fact thet he has not accepted a college or university job sooner, You it's always easy to get veople to tell good things about another, kn ow but we find it rather difficult under these conditions to find out any of the bad things about a fellow. I will appreciate it greatly, therefore, if you ‘mow any handicans or weaknesses that this man has and if you will tell me about them. I appreciate very much your very fine letter and all the trouble you went to to write me about these boys, and I hate t bother you further, but I do want to be sure of our ground in this matter and if you can give me any added information about Parkins I will :surely appreciate it. Dear Mr. Allen: We acknowledge receipt of your May 2nd letter and we are very much concerned by the present eondition of the 6-only #1702 gym mats 5* x 8! that you purchased from us last Fall. We must frankly admit that we are not very well acquainted with this particular item of merchandise and a call by one of our representatives would perhaps not materially help the handling of your complaint. we have written our source of supply, the Premier Gym Mat Co., 149 Wooster Street, New York City, N. Y., and have re- quested that they contact you immediately via letter and further that they have one of their representatives, if possible, make personal inspection of the mats. We have given them in detail your description of the present condition of the mats and we believe from this information they will have suffi cient information to know just what should be done. We have asked them to send us copies of any correspondence to you and we will keep this matter on open file and see that it is promptly taken care of. We trust that our actions for the time being will be satisfactory to you. If not please do not hesitate to write us further. Very trely yours, WaA OMPSON HDWE ee CAA: RR Claim Departme nt
