I just found out a few days ago that a new basketball
coach and teacher in the Dept. of Physical Education is going
to be hired at North High School here in Wichita, and due
to the fact that our business didn't prove very satisfactory,
I am applying for the job.

T have been having some good interviews with the teachers
committee of the school board, and I believe that I have a
fair chance for the job, due largely to my experience under
you at Kansas University. I am asking you and Ed. Elbel each
to write a letter of recommendation to lr. Re He McAllister,
who is head of the Dept. of Physical Education here in the
wichita Schools, and whom I am sure you know.

These vacancies, football and basketball, are not being
announced generally, but rather, they are choosing a few
men and approaching them for the job. I have been told that
Ralph conger is being considered very strongly for the football
job, and among the applicants for the pasketball job is
another one of your boys, Ernie Vanek.

The pressure is being put on for a winning team in
both high schools here, because the smaller Ark Valley
schools have kept Wichita in the cellar for some time. So
whoever gets the assignment will have a pretty tough job
because you know how keen /rk Velley competition is.

IT would appreciate it very much "Doc" if you will
write a letter for me and I know that it will carry a lot
of weight with this school board. ;
