Dear Doc:

Sorry I missed you when I came through Lawrence
day before yesterday morning, but you were busy
in chass and I didn’t have a chance to wait un-
til you were through.

I just wanted to let you know that my step-father,
Day K. Smith passed ie | last Monday morning here
in Research Hospital. had brought the folks
back from California tapes weeks ago due to his
very serious illness. e died of a hermorrage of
the brain and there was no chance to save him.. I
know that you and he were very close personal
friends and I knew that you would want to know of
his death:

I will certainly see you the next time I am in
Lawrence.
