GRIFFITH Southwest Conference Intercollegiate Conference (Big Ten) Feb. 14, 1942 br, F. C. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: I belive you have the schedule of officials for non-conference fames somewhere in your files. When the two games between Kansas and the Oklahoma Aggies were scheduled we immediately tried to assign the same officials for both games. Curtis was assigned to a Southwestern conference game on the date of Feb.20th. and O'Sullivan was busy both date; Carroll being open for the 28th.date. It was absolut- ely impossibel to get the same officials for both games, so we did the next best thing, assigned the top men on both lists of approval for the game in Stillwater. The officials that will WORK 5} the two games are as follows: ai og Et thr ‘a, ; ad Feb. 20 Oklahoma Aggies @ Lawrence Hinshaw, Gibbs-— Pye! en Feb./28 Kansas @ Stillwater Curtis, daveatt a tee “Dns peer e anneal “yk at 7 From all the information that I can get on Gibbs 4 he must be an excellent official. I belive in getting your ok. on him I told you that he would be in St.Louis working the nights of Feb. 19 and 21 and that he would come to Lawrence from there. He is rated tops as an official and of course is anxious to make good in our conference. I feel confident that he and Hinshaw will work an excellent game. You will remember that you also said that Van Reen of St.Louis would be ok. He couldn't get away, he has an important meeting there that night, nen to do with the defense program. These games were schedules late, and at that time all assignments in the Big Six and Missouri Valley conference had been made, leaving very few recognized officials available. We can get an official released from any minor college game when it is absolutely necessary but can't do that with the Major Con- ferences. I think we are fortunate that we were able to get four fine officials for theseg two games. Unless we had been able to get Curtis and Carroll for the game in Stillwater I hate to think of whom we would have had to take. With all good wishes, Cordially yo Reaves.
