My personal feeling is that so far as the rule book is concerned we should not change the present statements. However, I do feel that schools should have complete: freedom in the laying out of their courts, so long as they do not follow procedure which will be confusing or disadvantageous to their opponents. It seems to me that your idea would be very helpful to environments similiar to yours. You may be interested to know that our court here has a wide border of deep red, so that the playing surface stands out in bold relief. Our procedure is similar to that in Madison Square Garden. I have found this type of marking very helpful and the officials seem to have less trouble with out-of-bounds decisions. Therefore, I go back to my original statement that anything which will help the players in a particular situation may be © used, but that the rules probably should remain un- changed.
