ROBINSON ASSISTANT TO SUPERINTENDENT March 2, 1940 Dre Forrest C. Alien Dire Physical Education and Recreation University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: Your inquiry concerning a band for March 22 or 23 was waiting for me when I returned from the Superintendent's convention in St. Louise. I regret to report that for some months there has been a growing feeling in the musicians wnion of this district that our high school bands should not be permitted to play at any pay entertainment unless it is definitely a Kansas City Public School activity. However, I am referring your inquiry to Mr. Meleher today. Since the University of Kansas band is playing on March 30, I am wondering if some other group that will be represented in this tournament might not furnish a band for March 22 or 23. Through such an arrangement you would bring no criticism from the msicians union. I congratulate you on the excellent way in which you have handled the team this year and have confidence that you will come through at Normen next week. Sincerely, 4 C. $. Robinson Assistant CSR:MS
