NAVAL AMMUNITION DEPOT HASTINGS, NEBRASKA - 29 January 1946 Dr. Forrest Allen Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phog"; This is a letter of business and yet in a way is one of pleasure on my part that I can even drop you a letter. Perhaps you remember me and yet the possibilitiés of that are slim. My name is Blaine Hibler, an old Southwest High in Kansas City man and from thereto Missouri, then to Purdue. I'm a Marine officer at Hastings, Neb. now but soon will be separated. Another | Marine and I are running the basketball team here and that is the main reason for this letter. We have two fine basketball players here and they are both from the Kansas City area. Their names; Albert Smagiel and Lee Storer. This Albert Smagiel is an ex Ward Hien boy, and is now a Pfc in the Marines. He is playing guard here for us and what I mean a sweet one, he can do anything with the ball and he has 1& head that can't beaten on the court. I've seen your boy,Bob, play and he reminds me of him the way he handles eur club. Defensively he is tops as far as he is now, and with a little of that coaching he'd get there he would be a hard man to beat. He's 5ft llin. tall, fast on his feet and rugged under the board. Lee Storer is from Central High in Kansas City, Missouri and stands 6ft. 14in and is the boywith the eye. He has a beautiful one harided shot that he can fire with either hand and I know you like that. He plays a smooth brand of bel. and + know would fit into a KU. system. Both of these boys are good students so that would be some load off of your shoulders. All they need is a little college Pete eTete and coaching and they would be fine ball players. If you are interested in these boys Phog please drop me a line and maybe we can arrange a meeting for them to come to see you.
