“By AL STINE” will be no more
in the PILOT! The pipe-smoking
trainee, full name Alfred Lee,
leaves tomorrow for SAACC to be-
gin his pre-flight training. About
to become A/C Stine, Al preferred
the camera’s reproduction of him-
self rather than a_ self-caricture.
Now, Al figures he must leave his
brushes and drawing board for the

trainee morale by lessening the
strain of restrictions and duties. So
far, says Al, the subjects of occas-
sional satire and ridicule have tak-
en the jibes good-naturedly.
Married to a Charleston belle in
August, 1941, Al hopes someday to
get lined up as an editorial cartoon-
ist for some big newspaper, to do
gag cartooning for magazines on
the side. But first, he plans to at-
tend the Chicago Academy of Art
with help of education provision of
