Mother and I had planned to go to Warrensburg this morning to
attend the funeral of Mr, Tom Cheatham who was stricken with apoplexy
and passed away day before yesterday. I have to speak tonight at the
Men's Brotherhood at 7:30 at a Methodist gathering, and since I am
chairmen of the hill drive for the National War Pund and Commmity Chest,

. So she is writing Mrs. Chaatham and today I plan to sit dow at —
the noon hour and write her a letter-extending to her our deepest sympathy. |
They were grand people and fine friends of ours. In fact, they were two
of the most decent people, and when I say decent I mean very, very wealthy
people who were fine and commonplace as Irving Hill is in this tom. It
hurt me when I found Mother was not | é, but although I wanted to go my-
self, since I had planned on going, I that it was not the right thing
to do so I gave it up and will convey my deepest feeling to Irs. Cheatham

Kansas leaves tomorrow for Nebraska, and the odds layers - the

whe offer parley odds - are making Kansas the favorite over
Nebraska by six points. Can you imagine that! Whenever did Kansas rate
as favorite? Personally, I am just a little fearful of the result because
Nebraske has pleyed Mimesota, Indiana and Iowa Stete, and Kansas’ competi-
tion hasn*t been nearly as strong. Sut the win last Saturday against
Washburn I em sure will be helpful rather than hurtful. I do not know
about Nebraska's punters or anything about them, but two of their stars
were kept out of tho Iowa State game because of injuries and they are back
in the game for Kensas. So I am just afraid that something might happen
that would not work out according te the dope, but I must remember that
the gamblers are not sentimentalists and if they geve Nebraska six points,
then Nebraska must be terribly week. : er

We have a good team for war time conditions, if you know what I
mean. Henry and Elmer are doing a fine job and they will get the most
out of the men, but I just have a sneaking feeling that Nebraska will
show more power against us than many people realize.
