By way of asking for this application for a B card I may state that I am chairman of the Lawrunce Day Nursery Comsittee, Chairman for the University in the Third War Loan drive, chairman for the Univer- sity in the National War FPumd and Comunity Chest drive; member of the Board of Directors of Commmity Chest, president of Lawrence Rotary Club, member of Chamber of Commerce, member of Salvation Army Board. As a member of these various committees and organizations it is necessary for me to drive many miles a day in some instances in making comections or making speeches, attending meetings, and so forth. As a member of the University faculty I am often called upon to speak in the different schools in Lawrence as well as ad- jacent to Lawrence. As state chairman of the Recreation Committee of the Parent- Teachers association, I speak next month at Salina and Pratt, Kansas. Also, on November 15 I speak at Iola, Kansas, for the Farm Bureau of the Kansas State College Extension Division, with Dean Umberger. I respond only to these calls as they apply to the necessary activities on the home front. As chairman of the Third War Loan drive and the National War _ Pumd drive for the University it has been necessary for me te make many trips down town taking the collections to the Chamber of Commerce and making other necessary mileage trips in comection with thie work.
