To Basketball Coaches:

At A noeting of the Directors of enesene of the Big Six Gonference
rday, March 1, I was assigned the job of selecting the basket-
ais. The assigning ef officials for basketball will be
handled in the same manner as the football assignments. Detailed in-
formation conterning the manner in which this is te be done will be
presented at pA igen meeting here on March 22, Here are some suggestions
that you might be thinking about between now and March 22,

You will be asked to make out a preferential list of at least ten
officials and in the order of your preference. We will decide at
the meeting the limit to this list.

Officials are to appointed by this office for all games.

Assignments will be made as soon after your meeting here on March 22
as possible,

When your preferential list ie made, you will have the privilege of
listing any exceptions you care to make at the bottom of the list.

It wou a be be much easier if officials on your list were to be available
on all courts; at least we can work towardg this idea.

Re ess of any plan that may be use|for the selection of officials
this “thauans mat be always kept in mind, namely, that coaches are to —
be given the officials they want. It is a part of our - to improve
these officials whereever possible,

Selections will be made from the top of your list whenever POsAibles.......

Be ready to decide, as a group, on a limited list of officials; it
will be necessary for two or more coaches to on an official for”
that official to” to get on the list. Some plan will be made whereby new

officials ma be oo in your non-conference games that we may have

an opportunity to judge the ability of new men, This: ean be done be-
tween this office and the individual schools. as

Will you have as much of your. non-conference schedule ecmnhili by the
time of the meeting as possible.

this year. From this list and others that will be cissussed at the |
