Someone said there are fm stages in the American life - the passing of
the Indian, the passing of the buffalo, the passing of the buck, = and now
we are coming to the fourth stage where the Kansas Relays come in and the
passing of the baton.

But over agsinst all ef these is the thought - the passing to me by you
of this lovely set of golf equipment, which makes me feel that the fifth
stage in my life will prove to be the happiest one. If eis have consulted
me on this gift, which they did not, I would have chosen five to one the golf
clubs over any other token of esteem and friendship. So you know how inately
happy I am in receiving this pitt from my many friends in Lawrence. It has

expressed the good will and friendship of Lawrence to me in a way that I have

never before experienced.
